Teamwork

Many of the things we do in life require us to work as a team. Even in the midst of a pandemic, we are being asked to social distance. As a team we are limiting our spread of germs by staying home, the elderly, and immunocompromised rely on us. Scientists and doctors are working as a team to create vaccines and treatments for the sick. By nature, humans are social creatures and we accomplish so much by working together. Today I want to challenge you to join the team to accomplish another goal.
Humans ceasing our normal activities have brought about some interesting articles and posts. These posts have shown positive environmental impacts. Reports of Venice Canals being clear, wild animals wandering city streets, air pollution greatly decreasing. If you research those posts, you will find many of them false. Even those that prove to be true are not sustainable for the long term. After all, humans will eventually return to our daily life;  pollution will go back to normal and the sediment in the Venice canals will be stirred up as life returns to normal.  However, what if we all made some lifestyle changes in our homes to live more sustainable lifestyles?  As a team, we could reduce the negative impacts humans tend to have on the beautiful world around us. I have several activities for you and your family this week.
1. Research the “reports” of positive environmental impacts from human activity coming to a halt.
2. Check out USA Today’s article on the reliability of the above mentioned reports. Click here to read article
3. Talk with your kids about how important it is to not believe everything you see/ read on the internet. Give them some tips on how to find reliable information.
4. Find and take one of the many surveys that will give you your family’s carbon footprint.
5. Discuss and create a plan on how you and your family will reduce their carbon footprint. Remember make it a change that is attainable like starting to recycle more.
We live on a beautiful planet, let’s work as a team to keep it that way.
