It's Party Time!

Get out your party hats and confetti because this is a significant week for our planet! Wednesday, April 22nd is Earth day and just a few short days later, Friday, April 24th is Arbor Day. Being stuck in my house for weeks on end has certainly caused me to become even more appreciative of our planet. 

John Muir said it best, “ Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is necessity...” Years later we find ourselves missing the outdoors that we have so often taken for granted. What are you going to do this week to enjoy the world we have been given?

I have some ideas of ways to explore from home. Have you ever heard of Joel Sartore? Joel Sartore is a Lincoln, Nebraska native and a photographer for National Geographic.  He has tasked himself with photographing endangered species, before they become extinct. Another idea that I am stoked about doing this week, is planning a “trip” to anywhere in the world. My husband and I decided on Friday night we will be “going” to Hawaii. We are having a Hawaiian themed dinner, with Hawaiian decorations, and beach themed attire. It is so fun to learn about the different cultures around the world and have fun doing it. I have always been fascinated by the Polynesian culture and can’t wait to embrace it Friday. If you have small children, let them pick the place and have fun! It could be a learning experience for everyone in your family. Research the culture, follow their traditions, find some traditional recipes, find a live stream of the country/area. Have fun, be adventurous, and make memories.

Stargazing is an adventure you might want to consider embarking on. Find a good blanket, a clear night, and a yard. Research constellations before you head out on your trip to the backyard. Build up the anticipation and teach your kiddos, spouse, or  significant other about a different constellation every day building up to your star gazing event.
